What strikes me is how often, how subtly, and how fundamentally, our thinking and behaviour are influenced by factors that do not attract much of our conscious attention,

• personal preferences in the way we work with others,
• sterotypes and beliefs so firmly set, so unchallenged, we no longer question their accuracy or, in particular, their relevance,
• presumptions that may have exceeded their use-by-date ...
